I can’t help but look at a crib and think of a baby prison. I also have issues with not wanting to buy things that can be outgrown quickly. Yes I know babies grow fast and will have a new wardrobe ever 3-6 months. But that didn’t mean his nursery had to! We also have a small 2 bedroom home were myself and Husband work from home.

Making room without making clutter has been a priority with every baby purchase. For that reason I started researching alternatives to buying a crib. I knew that I would want a side sleeper bassinet for the first few months of Ds life. One that I could use both in our bedroom but also in his, so portability was important.

Side Sleeper Bassinet

I also had started to look at Montessori inspired bedrooms and loved the idea of having D go from his bassinet to a floor bed. so I went ahead and purchased a firm twin mattress. Right now I have it on a platform, but will drop it to the floor once D is ready.

I get that all babies are different and maybe the floor bed idea won’t work... We also have a pack n play just in case. I do hope the floor bed works though! I love the idea of:

  1. During the those bassinet months, we will have an extra bed where at least one of us can get a nights sleep if sleep deprivation hits us hard.

  2. Once D is ready for the floor bed, we can have real laying cuddle time together and read books in bed together.

  3. And when D is a bit older, I like the idea of having a babe safe room where he can explore.

***When we make the transition I will move around furniture as I do know even if I drop the bed to the floor is is not in a baby safe location

Vintage Dresser

Part of doing more with less was repurposing furniture we already owned. My mother brought this dresser up and helped me chalk paint in Orange a few years back and goes with our color scheme perfectly. The blue rug is also a piece that we repurposed from another room.

When we first started to discuss Nursery Themes I wanted to stay gender neutral regardless of we were finding out the sex. We decided on Safari jungle themed pieces and I couldn’t be happier with how these little details came together.

Custom Quilts

Something I absolutely loved was finding one of a kind pieces on Etsy. I wish I had a sewing machine, but being able to support these small businesses and have pieces that D can cherish is priceless! On top of these two quilts, the one in his bassinet was handmade as well as most of his swaddles were as well.

Seeing his room come together has made this journey feel more and more real everyday. I know once he gets here there will continue to be tweaking and changes. In all honestly as I nest I am constantly rearranging!
