5 Thirsties Duo Wraps - size 1
My very first cloth diaper purchase was 5 Thirsties Duo wraps from Target. I was only 13 weeks pregnant but wanted to get my hands on some cloth!
When I first started researching cloth diapers, Thirsties came up time and time again as a favorite. They are made in Colorado and many cloth diaper parents find US based manufacturing over China bases “cheapies”. You’ll see I have some cheapies in my stash.
Thirsties comes in multiple sizes, which appealed to me to be able to get a more custom fit when D is smaller. The size one should fit approximately 6-18 pounds. The colors are absolutely adorable and the set of 5 comes in at $14/diaper.
The duo wraps come with double gusset , elastic around the full waist to help catch any ”blow outs” and a three rise setting to grow with babe. As of now the only thing I wish was a little different is that the waist snaps are inline vs stacked. I like the stacked snaps on some of the other brands I bought so you can customize for a smaller waist and bigger thighs. The PUL is soft and not too “plastic” feelings, but I did purchase a couple other covers that are softer.
6 One Size (OS) Covers
For after D has gotten a bit bigger I bought 3 brands of OS Covers: Rumparooz, OsoCozy, and Happy Flute.
Rumparooz - Black and Blue covers. These retail about $15/cover. They are the softest of all the covers I bought. They claim to fit 6-35 pounds. Like the Thirsties they have double gussets and elastic all the way around the waist. They have stacked snaps. Where it says it will fit a 6 pound baby, they are much bulkier than the Thirsties.
Happy Flute - welcome to the “China cheapies”! These retail at $6 a diaper and come in a wide assortments of prints (Bird, sheep and cactus) They claim to fit 8-35 pounds. They feature the same double gussets but only have elastic in the back. A separate feature from the Thirsties and Rumparooz is that the Happy Flute has a cross over snap to get an even tighter waist.
Osocozy - Grey green. This appears to be the exact shape and features as the Happy Flute. If I was to guess it is likely just a branded Happy Flute but come in at $9/cover.
I’m looking forward to trying each of these and seeing what works for D. I’m going to have a hard time wanting to put pants on him and covering these cute covers up!
As for what I plan on putting inside these covers, since as I mentioned in my previous post, covers have no absorbency included I have purchased prefolds and fitteds.
Prefolds - I bought 12 bamboo cotton infant size prefolds from Osocozy. They had lots of great reviews. I also purchased 19 no brand infant size cotton prefolds that measure an inch longer than the OsoCozy. These do a take some folding and need to be fastened to babe.
Fitteds - I bought 6 OsoCozy bamboo cotton size 1 (7-15pounds) and then from Mercaci I bought a set of Green Mountain Diaper cotton workhorse fitteds used. They have definitely been well loved but are still very absorbent. I have 8 size small (yellow) and 7 size medium (red). I did have to do a full Strip and Bleach with the used diapers but for 3 bucks a diaper I wasn’t complaining and welcomed the learning experience.
Husband is on board with cloth diapering, but I do imagine that he is going to grab a fitted diaper before he tries to learn to fold and fasten a prefold.
Next I’ll tackle our All-in-Ones!
