Pocket Diapers

After dozens of hours of research, I was adamant that pocket diapers weren’t for me. And maybe that is true, but there is overwhelming support for them all over the interwebs and felt that maybe I was missing something. The idea of it being like an AIO but a lot of extra work to stuff a pocket, seems silly. However, pockets are MUCH cheaper (hello China Cheapies) than an AIO and you can customize the absorbency by adding different inserts.

What I also found is the prints on pockets are just too cute as well. It was easy to see how some parents ended up with 50+ pocket diapers. They are so cute in fact that people treat them like “collectables“ and often resell them for above MSRP! Thank god I didn’t make the same “mistake” as buying AIOs without researching and did some price research before buying and decided to go straight to the China Cheapies source vs being from the resell market. I bought 5 pockets and 11 inserts. The pockets were $6.00 a piece.

Alva Pocket Diapers

Alva Diapers - I mean look at those prints! Before I decided to grab a few pockets, I looked at US based brands and I just couldn’t get over the prints and steep price tag not comparing to how utterly adorable the Alva prints were.

The inside of a pocket diaper has a micro fleece (stay dry) lining, most are single gusset, and a pocket in the back to add extra absorbency. Many parents use these as their daycare go to since once stuffed they are just as simple to use as a AIO and much cheaper. Inserts - One great thing about pockets is you can stuff them with whatever you want. And I really do mean that, in a pinch and got an old cotton shirt? A dish towel? Really anything absorbant can be folded into that pocket. Which will make nicely if I do decide to put pockets in rotation as I can use my 31 cotton and bamboo prefolds to stuff! Inserts on their own open up another deep dive into what will work best.

This was super handy for me when I decided to buy a few inserts to go with my pockets and also wanted some to be able to act as doublers for nighttime diapers since I hear nighttime diapering is a real struggle. I ended up with some bamboo and some hemp since I already had cotton prefolds. And I stayed away from microfiber since moms complained of compression leaks and how little they hold.

Out of all the OS diapers I purchased these look and feel the biggest even when snapped to the smallest setting. I don’t think D will fit into them for quiet awhile.
